SIMEON OBIDAIRO

Simeon is a Partner at Aluko & Oyebode. He leads the Governance, Compliance and Investigations Practice. He has previously worked at the World Health Organization in Geneva, the World Bank in Washington, and the African Development Bank in Tunis on the broad area of governance and corruption in Bank funded projects. In these roles he garnered considerable experience investigating complex cross- jurisdictional incidents of fraud and corruption in numerous countries.

Simeon served as a Senior Counsel with the Independent Inquiry Committee (Volcker Commission) in New York investigating allegations of fraud and corruption in the United Nations Oil for Food Programme. The Oil for Food investigation prompted investigations, prosecutions and convictions in severalcountries including France and the United States.

In the private sector, Simeon served as a Manager at Deloitte’s Financial Advisory Services Division in South Africa, where he provided business re-engineering and strategic advice relating to strategy, operations and change management including improving and enhancing cost-effectiveness, transparency, as well as enhancing overall performance and quality of services.

Prior to working with Deloitte he served as Special Assistant (Counsel) to the Honorable Minister of Finance Nigeria, and participated in groundbreaking work with respect to anti-corruption in Nigeria. In addition to supporting the anti-corruption efforts of the Economic Management Team, he oversaw the framework for the utilization of the recovered Abacha loot.

In 2011, he was seconded by the African Development Bank to serve as the Director of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Nigeria. While on secondment, he was tasked with leading the joint CBN/SEC task force investigating and prosecuting the cases of capital market fraud in Nigeria occasioned by the banking crisis.

Simeon is currently a Senior Fellow and Associate Professor in the Law department of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He teaches post graduate courses on law & development, as well as on the liability of multinational enterprises.
